FerManna takes a 3-prong approach to ending malnourishment on a global scale.
We understand that proper nutrition is a vital component of the world's "hunger" problem and that by boosting daily nutritional intake, we begin to improve the health of the hungry so they can lead better more productive lives and break the hunger-poverty cycle.
First, we pack our formula with superfoods from all over the world based on research into "longevity hot spots". These superfoods are proven to be packed with vital nutrients essential for health and well-being.
Second, we ferment our formula to create a nutrition delivery system that goes straight to the cells where it is needed the most. What we learned studying the longevity hotspots is that fermentation is a process of "pre-digestion" so the body has to do less work to deliver the nutrients throughout the body.
Third, we dehydrate our formula so that it can be easily transported and delivered to the world's most remote places.
FerManna is the world's first fermented SuperFood specifically designed to address the nutritional deficiencies of malnourished children. For the first time ever, we can provide hungry, undernourished children with nutrients that will make the biggest difference to their health.
FerManna delivers health-providing nutritionally dense SuperFoods to malnourished children worldwide. For the first time in their young lives, these children will have the opportunity to experience cellular nutrition in a way that until now was not possible. We cannot begin to make up for what these children have experienced; our deepest hope is to provide them with the nutrition needed to give them a chance in life.
The Malnourishment Crisis
Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of 3.1 million deaths in children under five each year. In many places in the world, a child's 5th birthday is an important milestone for survival! http://www.wfp.org/hunger/stats
According to WorldHunger.org nearly 1 in 8 people (roughly 870 million), are suffering from chronic undernourishment (as of 2010-2012). Children are the most visible victims of undernutrition. Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year. Malnutrition can also be caused by diseases that reduce the body's ability to convert food into usable nutrients.
Under-nutrition magnifies the effect of every disease, including measles and malaria. The estimated proportions of deaths in which under-nutrition is an underlying cause are roughly similar for diarrhea (61%), malaria (57%), pneumonia (52%), and measles (45%). (Source: WorldHunger.org; Black 2003, Bryce 2005).
Hunger and poverty are deeply interconnected. By causing poor health, low levels of energy and even mental impairment, hunger leads to poverty. Hunger also reduces people's ability to work and learn--which leads to increasingly debilitating cycles of poverty and hunger. (Source WorldHunger.org).
1 out of 3 people in developing countries are affected by vitamin and mineral deficiencies according to the World Health Organization.
Deficiencies of important micronutrients can contribute to anemia and a variety of diseases, inhibit brain development and even prevent children from growing. It is often referred to as "Hidden Hunger" because children may be eating staple foods like rice but still not receiving valuable micronutrients such as vitamin A, iron, zinc, iodine and many others that are essential for healthy growth in the early years. A small amount of targeted micronutrients can have a major impact in a child’s development and overall health.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How will FerManna's SuperFood help malnourished children?
A. FerManna is fermented nutrition. The process of fermentation breaks down food into its essential nutritional components, making it much easier for the body to digest by creating a source of bio-available nutrition. These vital nutrients go straight to the cells, where they are desperately needed.
Q. How is FerManna's formula different than the nutrition malnourished children receive through other outreach programs?
A. FerManna is a fermented SuperFood formula consisting of over 20 organic fruits and 20 organic vegetables, over 70 plant-based minerals, prebiotics, probiotics and enzymes and FerManna mixes well in water or can be added to most foods. Most outreach programs concentrate on nutrients that sustain life such as protein, carbohydrates, fats, and overall calories but there is a lot more to health than these nutritional components alone. FerManna's SuperFood formula is specifically designed to provide vital nutrition currently missing from the diets of malnourished children and is fermented for easier digestion which is crucial for compromised digestive tracts.

About Dr. Maurice Werness
Raised by a single mother, Maurice Werness learned the value of self-reliance at an early age. Through the support of friends and family, he became an avid tennis player at 12 years old. He attended George Washington University on a tennis scholarship and went on to play tennis professionally for several years after graduating in 1982.
In his mid twenties he fell mysteriously ill and was unable to continue his tennis career. Conventional medicine was unable to find answers to his constant body pain and fatigue. It was through the guidance of a naturopathic physician that he was able to discover the path back to wellness. This is when he decided to dedicate his life to healing with Natural Medicine.
Dr. Werness went on to graduate from Bastyr University as a naturopathic doctor in 1992. He began his career in Seattle, Washington. A few years later he moved back east and has worked in private and collaborative practices in North Carolina since 1997. He served as President of the Institute for Natural Medicine and co-authored four books on The Natural Way of Healing.
In 2010 Dr. Werness was commissioned to lead a team of experts to study the worlds Longevity Hot Spots and develop a nutritional supplement based the diets of the world's healthiest people.
Today he lives with his wife and son in Durham, NC. He travels across the country doing public speaking engagements on the topic of healing with natural medicine.
